Chapter Twelve

Silas

This woman had my wolf at her feet and wanting to roll over. He wanted nothing more than to please her, which went strictly against the alpha side of me. If any other would have come at me like she had, they would have been put in their place.

When she told me no, I shifted quicker than I ever had. My intention was to give her a nip to the hindquarters and remind her I was the alpha in this territory, but instead, I gave her muzzle a good lick.

I'd never been so bold with another female wolf before. In fact, I don't think I'd ever made a move on a woman while she was in her wolf form. At least from what I could remember.

I was just about to give her face a little nibble when she snapped at me, nearly taking off my tongue.

Jesus, she was feisty, but I liked it. I liked it a lot.

"So, this is how it's going to be?" I backed up a few steps to make sure she didn't take off the end of my nose. A nose scar wasn't an attractive look. "Can't I get to know my mate more?"

"As a wolf?" Her teeth were still showing, and her ears went back a little. "You kissed me! What's next? Are you going to mount me like a dog?"

I let out a yip. "If that's what you want, it can be arranged."

She chuffed. "Why are we here?"

"I want to show you my home... your home." I got an uneasy feeling in my belly, like she was about to turn and give me her back. "Is this how you were with the other three, too?"

"I don't know you and what I do know doesn't work in your favor." Her words stung, and I wanted to tuck my tail between my legs but dug deep to stop it from happening.

"You don't know them hardly either." I sniffed the air and groaned. "Great. Just perfect."

Cole came tramping out of the woods, and his hair bristled when he saw me and Ivy standing close together.

"The two packs don't get along. What am I supposed to do with that? I don't want to play mediator."

"What if I would've found you first? Because then they'd be the enemies and not me." She cocked her head to the side in consideration. She knew I was right.

Cole walked right between us, turning so our muzzles were almost touching. He growled, but I didn't back up, letting out my own. I knew exactly what he was saying without actually hearing his words.

He was trying to stake his claim on her, but I wasn't about to let him. For the second time, I found myself in a fight for dominance. We lunged at each other, his teeth snapping and our anger growing louder and louder. It was a long time coming.

We rolled around on the ground, getting mud all over ourselves. For Cole having been shot and poisoned not too long ago, his strength seemed to be perfectly fine.
